One of the downsides of RV Life is that you can’t always be close to family for holidays. Luckily, we were going to be near an old friend from our Phoenix days who now lives in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Tyler and his wife Trish were very nice and allowed us to crash their Thanksgiving 🙂 We had a great time — they put out quite the spread. We rolled into town the day before Thanksgiving. Our first challenge was finding water to fill our fresh tank. We are so used to the Northwest where potable water is plentiful and everywhere. Not so much in the desert. We had to pay $15 at the State Park to gain access to their potable water station. Tyler had a spot at the lower level of his property that was level enough to park our trailer. Lake Havasu City is very hilly and our parking spot was a very rocky dirt pad. I almost got the truck stuck but then realized we have 4 wheel drive 🙂 Pulled back on to the road, shifted into 4 wheel drive, and gave it another go. This time worked out much better and we were able to get the trailer into the space. Whew. After a grocery run, it was time to relax and drink beers 🙂
Thanksgiving was great. Alot of Trish’s family came from other parts of AZ and even Colorado. I had no idea they could all cook so well — each dish was amazing. Trish’s sister even made a turducken — duck stuffed in a chicken stuffed in a turkey. I thought it was just an urban legend, but nope it is for real. And it is delish. And the pies!! Trish’s mom’s pecan pie was the star of the dessert table.
Thank you so much Tyler, Trish, and company for the hospitality and making us nomads feel welcome even when we are away from our own families.
After saying our goodbyes the morning after Thanksgiving, we rolled out of town, next stop Yuma, Arizona.
