Emi’s best friend, Kelvin, lives in San Diego. He was gracious enough to offer us a visit and a place to stay. San Diego is one of our favorite cities. Beautiful beaches, parks, lots of things to do, and pretty much perfect weather year round. Traffic is the only headache, but hey, we have plenty of spare time so a bit of extra travel time is no big deal 🙂
Kelvin showed us some of his favorite spots — hiking, walking, drinking, and eating. We enjoyed them all. My favorites were the Sunset Cliffs, Balboa Park, and Kura Sushi. Kelvin even prepared an amazing traditional Puerto Rican meal for us. So good.
One of the highlights of our San Diego stay was the Bayshore Bikeway ride. We did a 30 mile loop from Kelvin’s place, thru downtown, along the port, around the harbor, to Coronado, and back across the bay via the pedestrian ferry. An amazing adventure complete with a stop at Coronado Brewery for lunch. Bikes, beers, and beautiful scenery — it doesn’t get any better than that for me.
Kelvin recently suffered a torn bicep and needed surgery to repair it. We drove him and picked him up from surgery. We wish him a speedy recovery. It was great to see a good friend and catch up. Thank you so much for the hospitality.
It was also nice to escape the heat of the Borrego Springs desert for a few days. It’s not terribly hot in Borrego Springs, just wish it was about 10 degrees cooler 🙂
