We traveled from Crater Lake to Sisters, Oregon. Our new home for the next week. It felt like we had been dropped into the middle of a Yellowstone episode 🙂 A small ranch town with endless charm and natural beauty. The backdrop of the Three Sisters mountains makes for incredible views.

We hiked Smith Rock. We met up with our friends – John, Jenny, and their little son Eddie – who live nearby in Bend. I rode the bicycle up to McKenzie Pass – one of my favorite rides. We crossed over to the West side of the Cascades for a day hike. I love experiencing the stark difference between climates on each side of the Cascade Mountain range. Wet, lush, green forests on the West and dry, high desert forest on the East.

The bike rack broke on the way drive to Sisters. The rack was hanging precariously but luckily the bikes and the rack stayed attached to the RV. And even more luckily, Bend, a decent-sized town, had a bike rack store. Cascade Racks hooked us up with a new rack on the spot. Turns out, not all hitch-mount racks are rated for RV use. Good to know – and knowing is half the battle 🙂

My bike also needed some repair love. My front derailleur servo motor went out a few rides back and I have been limping along on one chain ring. Sunnyside Sports in Bend rescued me and my bike. They got me all fixed up. Coordinating and scheduling repairs while traveling and living in an RV is challenging, but we have been able to make it work. Fingers crossed, knock on wood, and all that other jazz, we don’t have too many more repairs during the rest of our journey 🙂

Our last day in Central Oregon, we witnessed the first fall snow on the mountains which made the mountain view even more spectacular. Almost forgot to mention Sisters Bakery – so good, we had to stop in a 2nd time on our way out of town. Goodbye Sisters. Next stop, Eugene Oregon.
