Wynoochee Lake is a gem inside of Olympic National Forest.  I would consider it a hidden gem.  I’m sure all of the locals know about it, but it is off the beaten path and not a hyped-up and over-visited destination like alot of the spots in Olympic National Park and Forest.  I actually stumbled upon it by accident while on a bike ride a month ago.  Read all about that adventure here.  Fast forward and it’s time for a beach day.  Load up the truck with beach towels, bathing suits, and a cooler stocked with sangria and food.  One of my favorite things about being retired is going to places during the week that would normally be packed on the weekend.  On a Monday, we had the beach/swim area almost to ourselves.  We spent most of the day relaxing in the sun and maybe a total of 10 other visitors came and went.  Made for a peaceful experience.  The water is very blue and very clear.  A bit chilly but once you take the initial plunge, it’s not too bad.  A few swims, a few naps, some sangria, and a nice picnic.  One of my favorite days so far during our stay in Copalis Beach.

A swim out to the buoy — my freestyle stroke needs some work — ha!!  And I thought I was going to pass out when I got back to shore and stood up — I’m getting too old for this shit 🙂
