The next leg of our journey was Chiloquin, Oregon to Carson City, Nevada. Our longest driving day yet, we were up early and on the road at sunrise. We pulled into Washoe Lake State Park by 3 PM. This campground really exceeded all expectations. Incredible snow-capped mountain views right from our camp site. We stayed 3 nights and I’m glad we picked Carson City for our one 3-night stay of this trek down to Borrego Springs, California.
The last time I was in Carson City, I was a young child. My uncle, Vernon, lived in Reno and Tahoe and we would come to visit. I have fond memories of visiting the old west mining town of Virginia City and playing games at the Midway of Circus Circus in Reno. It was cool to show Emi these places.
Our favorite part of the Carson City area was the downtown/historic area and the State Capitol grounds. Full of huge trees exploding with fall colors, the beautiful State Capitol building, and lots of cool bars and restaurants along Carson Street made for a very pleasant walk and experience.
It felt nice to be stationary for a few days. Wish I had one extra day for a bike ride, but alas, we have a deadline/reservation in Borrego Springs, so back on the road again. Next stop, the Eastern Sierra Scenic Byway and Bishop, California.
